4. To Share is to Halve

To Share is to Halve is an animation that discusses the universal prospect of dying and the importance of being open and honest when discussing death, though it may seem uncomfortable to do so.
My intention was to present the subject matter in a universally understandable and personal way without shying away from the importance of the topic. The animation surrounds ‘The Man’ as the central character and ‘The Pig’ to represent the person with whom he shares his worries with.
As I have not personally experienced death, I chose to focus on the information in a more metaphorical sense, comparing the loneliness felt to night and the relief of sharing your concerns with someone you trust, to day. The animation was created frame by frame and the hand-drawn aesthetic is to emphasize the human nature of the subject, the textures used were obtained by scanning in numerous painted surfaces. The animation was one of 6 shortlisted internationally for the RSA Student Design awards and was the recipient of an Adobe Award Top Talent prize.
